Upgrading from their 'tiny' two bedroom post war abode, first time builders Jade and Matt Stark have found a home in the Ellendale community that fits their growing family of four.

On the hunt for a home in North West Brisbane that worked with their budget, Jade says they initially looked to buy an established home, but extensive competition led them to consider other options.

After visiting Ellendale in Upper Kedron they were instantly sold on the community as the perfect place to raise their young children, Jackson, 4, and Milly, 1.

“When we saw the display homes we pretty much made up our minds then and there that building was for us,” says Jade.

“We have built our lives in North West Brisbane so we wanted to buy a home that was close to family and schools and after our first trip to Ellendale we knew we could see ourselves living there.

“Ellendale is close enough to the city for me to commute but just far enough to make you feel like you are somewhere far away and in nature.

“The general feeling of the area is very relaxing and serene,  like you have more breathing room.

“It has a lovely community vibe, green space and relaxing bush setting, plus it’s proximity to The Gap, Ashgrove and Keperra really drew us in.”

The family is building a two-storey, four bedroom home on a 449sqm lot, which has given them the freedom to create a design to accommodate their needs now and into the future.

“It is very important for us to have an ample sized backyard for the kids which flowed into the living room so we can keep an eye on them,” says Jade.

“We’ve made a few modifications like incorporating three living areas plus a study and large alfresco area to cater to our family’s needs.

“We also have the future in mind for when the kids get older and need a bit more space of their own.”

Jade and Matt are hoping the family will move into their new home at the start of 2021.

“We are probably having a different experience to those before us in the current environment, but we are happy to go along for the ride," says Jade.

“The fun parts have included visiting the Porter Davis World of Style showroom and picking all our colours and materials. It will be nice to see our vision come together in the build.”
